SYNHUM
HUMAN
SURROGATE

SYNHUM is a biomechanical and physiological human surrogate that wears, loads and instruments a suit exactly as an operator would, validating safety, ergonomics and telemetry without ever placing a person at risk.

WHAT DOES SYNHUM ENABLE?

Testing Without Human Risk
Run failure cases, thermal extremes and off-nominal conditions that could never ethically be run on a person, and capture full data throughout. No human subject is required at any test point.
Repeatable Ergonomics Measurement
Identical articulation, identical loading, every cycle. Removes the operator variability that makes human-subject suit trials difficult to compare.
Telemetry Chain Validation
Verifies that PULSE sensing reports correctly under real suit interface conditions, against a known physiological signal the surrogate generates.
Ground Truth For The Digital Twin
Physical surrogate results anchor SYNSUIT simulation models, so predicted performance is corrected against measured performance rather than assumed.
Operating Envelope

WHERE DOES SYNHUM DEPLOY?

SYNHUM operates in two configurations. In the laboratory it sits inside the PROVE apparatus for controlled, repeatable campaigns. In field configuration it is deployed into the environment itself, validating human systems where the conditions cannot be reproduced on a bench.

HOW DOES SYNHUM WORK WITH SUITRIX AND SYNSUIT?

PROVE is one apparatus with three parts. SUITRIX supplies the mission conditions, SYNHUM occupies the suit and generates the measurement, and SYNSUIT predicts what both should produce. Run together, prediction and measurement converge. Every divergence improves the model.

SUITRIX™: The Conditions
High-fidelity rigs that simulate mission conditions across all domains. SYNHUM is mounted inside SUITRIX for repeatable, benchmarked campaigns.
SYNHUM™: The Measurement
The instrumented surrogate that wears and loads the suit, generating physical ground truth without exposing an operator.
SYNSUIT™: The Prediction
Synthetic suit and digital twin environment. SYNHUM results correct and anchor its simulation and predictive analytics.

Common Questions

SYNHUM, ANSWERED

What is SYNHUM?
SYNHUM is a biomechanical and physiological human surrogate platform built by Metakosmos. It wears, loads and instruments a suit exactly as an operator would, allowing safety, ergonomics and telemetry validation without placing a person at risk. SYNHUM sits in the PROVE layer of the Human Systems Infrastructure Platform.
How is a surrogate different from a crash test dummy?
A crash test dummy measures impact injury over seconds. SYNHUM measures sustained operational performance: joint loading through full articulation cycles, thermal exchange with the suit, and physiological telemetry over the duration of a mission profile.
Why test with a surrogate rather than a person?
Two reasons. Failure cases, thermal extremes and off-nominal conditions cannot ethically be run on a human subject. And human trials vary between operators and between runs, which makes suit revisions difficult to compare. SYNHUM produces identical conditions on every cycle.
Can SYNHUM be deployed outside the laboratory?
Yes. In field configuration SYNHUM is deployed into the environment itself, validating human systems in conditions that cannot be reproduced on a bench, including ocean, stratospheric, CBRN and orbital deployment alongside HELIOS.
How does SYNHUM relate to SUITRIX and SYNSUIT?
SUITRIX supplies the mission conditions, SYNHUM occupies the suit and generates the physical measurement, and SYNSUIT predicts what both should produce. Measured results correct the simulation, so predicted performance is anchored to physical ground truth.
